Pine forest

Forest, highlighted the dominance of the ‘pino canario’ (Pinus canariensis) situated in the Island summits. This species is crucial in the underground water recharge. Location in the Natural Areas of Las Cumbres, el Nublo, Inagua, Tamadaba and Los Marteles.

Monteverde

Vegetation flat dominated by laurisilva (laurel forest) el the ‘fayal-brezal’ (erica arborea with myrica faya), seated in the humid slopes, with more influence of the trade winds. Location of the Natural Areas of Doramas, Los Tilos de Moya, El Brezal, Azuaje and Barranco Oscuro.

Thermopile forests

Vegetation Flat, of transition between xerophytic shrubs (euphorbia, aeonium) and forested areas (pine and monteverde), whose dominant species are the ‘sabinar’ (juniperus canariensis), the ‘acebuchal’ (olea pistacia), ‘los lentiscos’ (pistacea lentiscus), the ‘Palmera Canaria’ (phoenix canariensis) and the ‘dragos’ (Dracaena draco and dracaena tamaranae). Location in Natural Areas of Güigüí, Barranco de los Cernícalos, Bandama, Tamadaba, Los Marteles, Valle de Agaete, Fataga, Tafira and Pilancones.

Coastal brush

Composed by the species and formations which occupied the lower altitude ring, towards 200m in the north and towards 400m in the south. ‘Tabaibales dules’ (euphorbia balsamifera) ‘cardonal’(euphorbia canariensis), aulagas, halophic belt and various aeonium. Location in Natural Areas of Maspalomas, Tufia and Arinaga.
